Football season is here! Who are you rooting for??
In our previous topic, we discussed the importance of “back to school” oral hygiene care. Now that Fall sports have begun, it’s time to talk the importance of mouth guards. Typically when someone is hit in the jaw and depending on the force, it can affect the lowest part of the brain(traumatic injury). Most people think the only purpose of the guard is to protect the teeth, but when wearing, it can actually cut down the amount of force from that hit. It’s super important for our children to be protected as much as possible whether the injury is big or small!
Other injuries a mouth guard can reduce the impact of:
-
Concussions
-
Gum and soft tissue injuries
-
Jawbone fractures
-
Lip/Tongue/Cheek lesions
-
Neck injuries
-
Tooth fractures
